How to start a blog
Well, this is my first attempt at writing a Blog, a virgin in the world of blogging, never blogged before, never been blogged, nor felt the desire until now - so I thought I would create a Blog about my experience of starting to Blog, in the hope that:
- a. I might learn something, and
- b. Others starting a blog can see how to go about it
Well that's my hope. So, the first thing I did was to search for 'Blog' on Google, which came up with the usual millions of references, but top of the list was blogger.com so that's what I did. Then I was directed to the most popular (or so they claim) bloggers website, which hosts your blog for Free (or so they tell me). I quickly glanced at the screen and there were 3 big numbers that were Steps to follow. This looks simple enough, you'd think - think again!
Click here to begin, it read, so I did.
Before I knew it I was being asked for an e-mail address, username, passwords, shoe size, inner leg measurement and other personal details which I will not be divulging to you readers now.
Next I had to come up with a user name, so I tried various usernames, all of which had been taken - including Blahblahblogger would you believe it? Yes, there are obviously far too many of you bloggers with little else to do than create a blog and come up with daft names!
Anyway, next they wanted a screen name (presume this will appear after each of my entries? will have to wait and see), a password and then re-type the password, just in case my typing was crap the firsttime. So I typed in my password, which funnily enough is ******** that's ******** for all you hackers out there - are there any hackers still out there, or have they been replaced by blaggers and bloggers? anyway I digress...
Oh and you need a title -tricky that one - do you write a blog about yourself? about your pet newt - 'Tiny' (he's my newt!)? about your sex-life? your neighbours? your work?
Finally, before you're allowed to create your own blog, you have to read the dreaded Terms and Conditions and accept them, which of course I didn't, I just ticked the I accept box.
Then ta-da - your blog appears with a space to write virtual web pages of drivel like this - marvellous!
So, what have I learned so far.
- Think about what your blog is going to be FIRST - BEFORE you start an account, otherwise it will begin to look like this one.
- That it really was quite easy to make (even though I may have just signed my life away by not bothering to read the terms and conditions - well who does?)
- That it is extremely time-consuming
- That no-one will probably read it anyway
Anyway this is my first and last Blog, I hope you have found something in it for you,
from a now non-virgin Blogger
